Two Savage Denzels, a trio that features not only one, but two Denzels! Denzel Ramirez plays drums and percussion. A graduate of Mount Hood Community College (MHCC) and mentor at Young Musicians and Artists (YMA), he can be heard playing at Burlingame Space, MHCC, and other venues throughout Portland. Trombonist Denzel Mendoza attended The New School of Jazz and Contemporary Music in NYC and performs with The Illegal Son (an interpretation of the Undocumented way of life through Sound and Music), Portland Jazz Composers’ Ensemble, and many others. John Savage plays saxophones and flute with ambient electronics in Two Savage Denzels. He has performed in a wide spectrum of ensembles and has an extensive discography including recordings of his own groups with PJCE Records. He earned Ph.D. in flute performance and theory from New York University.
